The Vintage Drum Meeting (VDM)
originated from sporadic meetings of individual collectors in the 1990s.
The first official VDM was in Darmstadt in 1998. Since the year 2000, it
took place in Neu-Isenburg annually. But in 2017 we have a new location
in Mörfelden-Walldorf! The date always is the Saturday of
the Frankfurter Musikmesse near by. Back then and today the idea is to create a forum for friends and collectors of historic drum sets. In the 1990s it wasn’t as easy as it is today, to find information in the internet or subject literature like the books by Rob Cook for instance. So the exchange of information and exhibits of drum collections were in the foreground. In recent years, the VDM also became a collectors’ fair and flea market for old drums and accessories. The VDM is attended by about 30 exhibitors and 250 visitors from the vintage scene with a rising participation of international parties. Every VDM has a main topic, usually a drum maker such as Ludwig, Sonor, Trixon etc. which is presented by a collector and expert. Clinics and a raffle with attractive prices complete the picture and make the VDM a fun event one would not want to miss. |
Das Vintage Drum Meeting entstand aus sporadischen Treffen einzelner Sammler. 1998 fand das erste offizielle VDM in Darmstadt, seit 2000 fand es jährlich in Neu-Isenburg statt, aber 2017 nun erstmals in einer neuen Location in Mörfelden-Walldorf! Termin ist der Musikmessen-Samstag. Anspruch war damals wie heute, ein Forum für Freunde und Sammler alter historischer Schlagzeuge zu schaffen. Ende der 90er Jahre war es noch nicht so einfach, sich Informationen über das Internet zu besorgen, auch gab es noch keine Fachliteratur (wie heute z.B. die Bücher von Rob Cook). Der Austausch von Informationen und die Ausstellung
der jeweiligen Sammlungen standen im Vordergrund. In den letzten Jahren
hat das VDM zudem den Charakter einer
Sammlerbörse und eines Flohmarktes für alte Schlagzeuge und
Schlagzeugzubehör bekommen. Das Treffen wird in der Regel mit ca. 30
Ausstellern aus der Vintage-Szene beschickt und von rund 150
Sammlern und Interessierten zunehmend auch international besucht.
